The city of Olbia is a center under development accelerated, jumping several intermediate stages, is leaving the marginal role that had until the early '60s for that of the driving forces of the territory of North-East. The expansion of the city, which occurred for later additions, has given rise to an organization around the compact city center, an expansion along the major rivers that denote the characteristic shape of petals, but also to non-harmonic growth, which affects only a few manufacturing and service sectors (mainly tourism related) while others remain outstanding or even discovered.
Principal topic: Facade. the main concept of this project is to create a mixed system which has within different elements for: -energy generation, -water recycling, -buildings climatic conditions -host units creation for resolving demographic growing problems -urban greening.
Topic A: Energy generation. In 2050, the city of Olbia would need enough spaces and systems to get energy to the citizens, so, one of the principal issues of our work is to solve this needs, including those systems in new constructions and pre-existing buildings.
Topic B: Water recycling. Another important part of the project is about the resolution of the problems of too much waste of water, trough the rain water collection and society awareness and education. That is why, the main facade of the water collecting building in the square would show the city's water reserves and expenses, so that people could change their minds to save more water.
Topic C: Demographic growing. In the future, societies will be concentrated in big cities. There is a challenge for architects to get those cities prepared for incoming people so that everybody could live well. There is an enormous risk in case that cities collapse in a demographic growing way.
Topic D: Buildings climatic conditions. Why do we need to get more energy, if we can waste less just with a good project? This is the idea. We have thought different systems to spend less energy in different spaces.
Topic E: Urban greeening. Looking for offset global warming problems, we propose different ways of creating natural air conditioning systems, mixing green walls with solar chimneys, so that fresh air come into the buildings, and hot air will be extracted by the chimney suction. Furthermore, we have projected a "green gallery", turning a small street into a nice covered boulevard with different smells of flowers and plants.
